Join the Newark Unified School District after-school instrumental music program. The program is open to incoming 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and is funded by the Newark Educational Foundation. Students will learn to play one of a variety of instruments and perform in the Elementary Band.

Why should you learn to play and better understand music?

  • Learning an instrument is FUN and develops discipline
  • Practicing an instrument increases a student’s ability to focus
  • Studies show that learning music early in one’s life greatly improves mathematical and abstract thinking abilities

We will have an information night on Monday, November 5 at 6:00 PM in the Birch Grove Intermediate cafeteria. At this event we will discuss sign-ups and class times. We will also have instrument demonstrations and a question and an-swer session. Classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays at Birch Grove Inter-mediate. Many instruments are available—and will be provided on a first come—first served basis. There is NO enrollment fee or other costs associated with the program. If you are interested, please fill out the form below and return it to the office at your school no later than Monday, October 29 or email this information to Mr. Worley at the email address listed below.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact: Mr. Worley at [email protected]

Dear Musick Families,

I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. As August quickly comes to a close we are eager to welcome your children back to Musick Elementary & Preschool for an outstanding 2018-19 school year. Our administrative, custodial, and secretarial staff have been working throughout the summer months preparing our school for another amazing school year. Teachers have been creating learning spaces that will inspire our scholars throughout the year ahead. Musick absolutely shines with an excitement for learning and growing! I encourage all of you to attend Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018  to meet your child’s teacher and tour our campus.

Musick take great pride in creating an educational atmosphere where students can learn in a caring and creative environment. Together our staff encourages students to engage in a lifelong love of learning. As we focus on student achievement, we will provide a variety of academic and educational experiences that promote student growth and learning throughout the year. In our newly developed team environment teachers will regularly collaborate, analyze data, plan instruction, and develop common assessments to ensure student achievement is attained throughout each grade level. During the upcoming school year I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s learning. Parent involvement plays a critical role in our school’s success. Ways to support and increase your child’s academic success include:

  • Make attendance a PRIORITY including limiting tardiness and absences
  • Check Class DOJO regularly to stay informed of what is happening in your child’s classroom
  • Communicate often with your child’s  teacher
  • Read with your child at least 20 minutes a day
  • Limit television and social media, encourage outside play
  • Review the school day with your child

The staff and I are looking forward to an educationally rewarding school year with you and your children. We hope that you will visit and volunteer often.

With Leopard Pride,

Mrs. Golliher
