California Health Kids Survey logo

Newark Unified is participating in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) this school year.

CHKS is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. It is administered to students at grades five, seven, nine, and eleven. It enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence.

Please contact your student’s school office directly to obtain access to the parent/guardian survey; follow this link to learn more about CHKS: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/at/chks.asp.

Newark Unified School District strives for continuous improvement in our service to students and families. We achieve this through evaluating our outcomes, identifying strengths, developing recommendations for improvement, and refining our practices.

One of the ways we evaluate our strengths and find areas for improvement is by asking parents/guardians about their experiences and recommendations.

Please take a few minutes to provide us feedback that will inform our areas of focus for improvement, our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), and our future practices.

Join the Newark Unified School District after-school instrumental music program. The program is open to incoming 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and is funded by the Newark Educational Foundation. Students will learn to play one of a variety of instruments and perform in the Elementary Band.

Why should you learn to play and better understand music?

  • Learning an instrument is FUN and develops discipline
  • Practicing an instrument increases a student’s ability to focus
  • Studies show that learning music early in one’s life greatly improves mathematical and abstract thinking abilities

We will have an information night on Monday, November 5 at 6:00 PM in the Birch Grove Intermediate cafeteria. At this event we will discuss sign-ups and class times. We will also have instrument demonstrations and a question and an-swer session. Classes will meet Mondays and Wednesdays at Birch Grove Inter-mediate. Many instruments are available—and will be provided on a first come—first served basis. There is NO enrollment fee or other costs associated with the program. If you are interested, please fill out the form below and return it to the office at your school no later than Monday, October 29 or email this information to Mr. Worley at the email address listed below.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact: Mr. Worley at [email protected]
