Dear Musick families,
I am excited to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. The past year and a half have presented so many challenges with the pandemic, but I could not be prouder of our attitudes and accomplishments during this time. Despite the stressors put on families, teachers, and students, we continued to see students make academic gains, mature, and develop perseverance. Our technology skills and communication improved beyond imagination while we learned to be more creative, flexible, and appreciative. Together we continued to RISE.
Community and strong family engagement has always been an essential part of student success at Musick. Parents are a child’s first teachers and important role models. Every parent can help their child RISE( Be Responsible, Be Inclusive, Be Safe, and Be Engaged) in school, regardless of their educational background and the language they speak. Opportunities to connect include email, Instagram, Twitter, and Class DOJO, along with attending school events as much as possible. Please be sure to read, or watch, the weekly DOJO updates that I send on Friday. You can click to translate this into nearly any language for any written communication. This will always contain the most up-to-date information about upcoming events and important reminders. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher at any time with questions, concerns, and suggestions. It is also important to stay informed about what your child is learning. Your child’s teacher will keep you updated, but you can reach out to share if you notice your child struggling with the content or to discuss strategies for practicing at home.
This year, we will enhance our school, and district, focus on social emotional learning. Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) program will continue supporting students’ social emotional and behavioral needs this year. This year’s theme is “Everybody RISE.” Additionally, we are embracing the district wide Character Strong curriculum. Classroom teachers will begin implementing universal, classroom-based social emotional lessons and activities to their entire classes almost every week this fall.
Due to the pandemic, some of our routines and procedures may be modified during the year. As guidelines change, we will be flexible in adapting them and proactive in communicating this information to you. As always, please contact me if you have questions and concerns. I will always do my best to assist you.
I am beyond delighted that our students are returning in person and can’t wait to see the progress they make during the 21-22 school year. Thank you for choosing to be part of our outstanding Musick Family. I’m looking forward to another wonderful school year!
